Nowadays we are living in quite uncertain world where the threat of terrorist attacks is constantly increasing. Moreover, the menace of local wars is present almost everywhere in the world. Therefore, it is of primary interest for authorities to increase and optimize all possible resources in order to counteract these threats. As very recent history has showed that even nowadays these threats are unavoidable which makes it quite important to measure and evaluate the outcomes of already accomplished terrorist acts or war activities on human health and moreover, the long lasting effect on future generations. This implies implementation of adequate countermeasures for minimizing and diminishing of all dangerous consequences of terrorist and military activities.
The research groups that take part in the execution of this research have great expertise in bioengineering, biotechnology and genotoxicity testing which is proven by the large number of scientific papers published by them on the topic (Celik et al., 2009; El Idrissi et al., 2013; Genc et al., 2014; Georgieva et al., 2015a; Georgieva et al., 2015b; Hong et al., 2012; Jansen and Ruskovska, 2015; Miloshev et al., 2002; Ruskovska et al., 2014; Staneva et al., 2016). All four co-directors will supervise, manage and control the whole research scientific work during this phase as well as will supervise the young researchers during their project participation. Two young researches from Prof. Miloshev’s lab, two from Prof. Shen’s department, four from the laboratory of Prof. Ruskovska and two from the department of Prof. Celík will be involved in this part of project development. Their involvement will mainly include research and training. All young researchers will be responsible for the application of the techniques for bioengineering of live cells in order to make them sense illicit compounds and genotoxins at high speed and in miniscule concentrations. Short exchange training activities are foreseen for any one of them in other’s laboratory in order to gain experience and become apt at different techniques and moreover, to be able to gain and exchange knowledge and expertise. The affiliated member the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria will take care of the whole logistics of this sub-project phase, conveying good communication and collaboration among all project teams by organizing, managing and monitoring all steps of work by regular get-together events, online communication and coordination. Two young participants from Dr. Passy’s team will also participate in all these activities by regular involvement in all work concerning these communicational and logistic activities.
